Death X Taco Branding
Death X Taco branding was created to capture a bold, rebellious taco culture while remaining clear, memorable, and adaptable across media. The project focused on building a strong brand identity that works across digital campaigns, merchandise, packaging, and promotional graphics.
Early exploration focused on typography and graphic motifs to shape a system that feels energetic and slightly irreverent while maintaining disciplined design.
The final Death X Taco branding combines bold typography, strong contrast, and graphic iconography to create a recognizable identity that communicates confidence, humor, and attitude while remaining visually clean.
Brand Identity Concept
As a graphic designer in Los Angeles, I’m drawn to brands that carry tension — contrast, culture, attitude.
Death X Taco is a food truck concept built on that edge. Bold but refined. Grit with restraint. A street presence that feels intentional rather than chaotic.
The goal was simple: create a brand identity that could hold its own in the noise of the city. Something sharp enough to stop foot traffic, yet clean enough to feel elevated. Memorable without trying too hard.
Brand Identity Development
First, the brand identity work focused on defining the visual personality of Death X Taco. The typography was designed to feel bold and unapologetic, which reflects the brand’s playful yet edgy tone.
In addition, graphic elements were developed to support the core logo. These elements allow the identity to expand into merchandise, social campaigns, and promotional design without losing consistency.
Because restaurant branding often lives across many platforms, flexibility was essential. Therefore, the identity system was built to adapt easily to both large-scale applications and smaller digital formats.
Visual System & Graphic Language
Next, a visual language was developed to unify all creative assets. Color, typography, and graphic shapes were refined to create a distinctive design system.
For example, the high-contrast palette ensures strong visibility in social feeds and promotional materials. Meanwhile, bold layouts help the brand stand out in competitive food and nightlife environments.
As a result, the Death X Taco branding feels both energetic and cohesive.
Campaign & Social Media Design
Once the identity was established, the design system expanded into social media and campaign graphics. These assets were created to maintain strong brand recognition while also encouraging engagement.
Additionally, the layouts were designed with mobile-first viewing in mind. Because most restaurant discovery now happens through social platforms, the visuals were optimized for fast scrolling environments.
Consequently, the campaign materials maintain clarity and impact even at smaller screen sizes.
Design Approach
Throughout the project, the focus remained on balancing personality with clarity. While the brand embraces humor and attitude, the design still relies on strong visual hierarchy and disciplined typography.
This approach ensures the Death X Taco branding remains distinctive while still functioning effectively across multiple formats.
Designing an Icon That Cuts Through
The “X” became the anchor — a signature mark. It represents fusion: flavor, culture, collision. It also carries weight. It’s decisive. Confident.
The typography draws from stencil forms — a nod to Mexican tradition and street craft — but tightened and modernized. Nothing ornamental. Everything deliberate.

Every line had to feel intentional. The truck needed to look just as strong parked at noon as it did under streetlights.
Final Direction
Death X Taco feels distinct without being loud.
The identity balances grit and polish — speaking to urban food culture while maintaining a chic, controlled presence. The “X” works as a stamp, a tag, a badge. It scales. It repeats. It owns space.
As a Los Angeles graphic designer, I focus on building identities that feel real — rooted in culture, shaped with restraint, and designed to live beyond a single moment.
